Which Safety Handles for my situation?

Which Safety Handles for my situation?

The Best Lifting Aids for Business, compared by Sector and Product

When it comes to tackling manual handling challenges safely and efficiently, choosing the right handle solution can make all the difference. Safety Handles offers several products—iTip, 2Tip, iRoll, ezTip, and Wheelie Safe—each designed with specific use cases in mind. Let’s break down what sets them apart and which one fits your industry best.

iRoll Safety Handles being used on a wheelchair

What Are iTip Safety Handles?

iTip Handles are ergonomic, rotating hand grips that can be attached to the sides of almost any cylindrical or tubular object — such as wheelbarrows, roll cages, wheelchairs, bins, and more. They help keep wrists in a neutral position while lifting, pushing, or pulling, reducing strain and improving control.

As different attachments are needed in different situations. Some maybe permanent attachments, have the ability to be removed or serve a different market where a specific name is needed such as Wheelie Safe for bins. We have a range of different options from iRoll to ezTip.

They help keep wrists in a neutral position while lifting, pushing, or pulling, reducing strain and improving control.

Product Comparison: iTip, iRoll, ezTip, and Wheelie Safe

iTip Safety Handles

iTip Safety Handles are the original award-winning ergonomic solution, designed to reduce strain on wrists, shoulders, and backs. They attach to almost any tubular equipment — wheelbarrows, sack trolleys, roll cages, wheelchairs, and more — providing a rotating grip that keeps the wrist in a neutral position during lifting, pushing, or pulling.

Solid Hand Protection:
Recognising the vulnerability of hands during manual movement, iTip’s large, brightly coloured handles help minimise injuries caused by accidental catching and crushing. The robust design ensures a secure grip and reduces the likelihood of slippage. They also make it easier to maintain a firm hold when it’s impractical to turn equipment around, allowing for safe pulling as well as pushing.

For DIY and domestic use, iTip is often preferred because its slim profile allows wheelbarrows to pass through narrow entrances such as garden paths or alongside a house.

Best Fit: A universal option for both businesses and households — covering wheelbarrows, bins, roll cages, wheelchairs, and more.

ezTip Safety Handles

ezTip offers similar ergonomic benefits to iTip but is specifically designed for rugged conditions. Its key advantage is the metal bolt swivel, which resists jamming from dirt, mud, cement, or other substances that could block standard rotation mechanisms.

This makes ezTip ideal for construction, outdoor, and landscaping work, where equipment is frequently exposed to rough handling and contamination.

Best Fit: Construction, agriculture, landscaping, and any environment where dirt or heavy use is common.

2Tip two-person lifting

A second product specifically designed for road crews is discussed in the Reading Council case study. A recurring issue is the double-person lift, 'muck away' situation where two colleagues handle a loaded wheelbarrow, transferring its contents into a low-sided truck or skip. A two-person lift without the assistance of 2Tip can easily result in trapped fingers, back, and wrist injuries.

To be able to instruct crews to clear from site manageable levels of waste makes a big difference to efficiency. It can save significant sums of money from calling in a grab loader, the waiting time for its arrival, any subsequent damage caused by its actions…and of course the carbon footprint. Truly a low-cost British innovation to help reach your sustainability goals and targets.

2Tip Reinforced Wheelbarrows

In collaboration with the councils and the highways industry, we have developed the perfect wheelbarrow for tarmac repair teams. It’s based on the preferred 90-liter metal pan with an additional steel reinforcing plate directly under it. This not only bolsters the already impressive pan strength reducing damage caused by tough use but also by hot materials causing distortion. It is mounted on a competition-beating 32mm tubular frame (most are 30mm) and a puncture-proof tyre. We are supplying these fitted with 2 pairs of ezTip Safety Handles, one for safe “hands-on” tipping in the conventional way. The second set fitted by the wheel provides a safe and ergonomic grip for a second person to easily pick up. We are able to supply and deliver* these assembled and ready for work for less than the nearest wheelbarrow of this specification and the supply only of the handles.

Wheelie Safe® Safety Handles

Wheelie Safe is a patented handle system designed exclusively for waste bins. It provides improved grip and handling while minimising hand contact with bin surfaces, reducing hygiene risks.

This makes it an essential choice for industries where bins are moved frequently, especially in healthcare, councils, hospitality, and waste services.

Best Fit: Waste management operations in healthcare, councils, and hospitality sectors.

iRoll Safety Handles on a Roll Cage also fitted with hand guards

iRoll Safety Handles

These are designed for attaching to wheelchairs, roll cages and devices needing bespoke solutions such as warehouse cages. They also have accessories such as utility belts to attach them between operation and hand guards to reduce the chance of hand scrapping. They come in two types:

  • Fixed iRoll Handles (Welded/Plate Mount):
Perfect for roll cages that remain in one organisation, such as warehouses. Welded or plate-mounted handles provide a solid, permanent attachment at the correct HSE-recommended height, reducing the chance of cages toppling over.  Roll cages can still be collapsed and stacked.

  • Removable iRoll Handles (Clip-On/Adapter Mount):
Sometimes, such as in supermarkets, the amount of roll cages owned means that it's not practical to carry out a modification to provide an attachment for Safety Handles on to the cage straight away. In these cases it is necessary to use an iRoll safety handle adapter. Removable iRoll Safety Handles, fitted with adapters, allow users to attach them only when required, without permanently modifying the cage. This ensures safety and ergonomics whilst using the existing stock of roll cages.

Best Fit: Warehouses and logistics hubs benefit from fixed iRolls, while retail, hospitality, and shared-supply chains are best served by removable iRolls.

Wheelchairs

One often overlooked aspect is the safety of caregivers, a critical consideration that Safety Handles address with precision. These handles have undergone comprehensive analysis by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), attesting to their efficacy in mitigating the causes of musculoskeletal disorders. Caregivers who repetitively push wheelchairs at incorrect heights are susceptible to severe, long-term injuries. Safety Handles emerge as a solution, providing not only ergonomic support but also a tangible commitment to safeguarding the well-being of those who selflessly care for others. The HSE's comments reinforces the value of Safety Handles in promoting a safer and more sustainable caregiving environment.

Best Fit: Hospitals and care homes, carers and porters.
